International Market Place
To bring International Market Place to life, 505Design teamed with Taubman to create the premiere shopping district that will serve as the living room for Oahu and Waikiki. With two levels of shopping and a third level dining and entertainment deck, International Market Place will be the preeminent shopping center in Waikiki.
Nearly 60 years ago, a Polynesian-themed village was established in the heart of Waikīkī, Hawai‘i, called International Market Place. The destination attracted kamaʻāina, celebrities and tourists from all over the world who shopped, dined and enjoyed special experiences, including performances by legendary Hawaiian musician Don Ho. The iconic and beloved destination, noted as the site where tiki culture was born, closed in 2014. Taubman reimagined International Market Place and reopened it as a shopping, dining and entertainment destination in August 2016. The 343,000-square-foot, open air retail, dining and entertainment destination is anchored by Hawai’i’s first Saks Fifth Avenue and showcases a dynamic collection of over 90 luxury and contemporary retailers. In addition to excellent retail, the center features the largest collection of restaurants in Waikīkī on the third-level Grand Lānai. From Michelin-starred meals to locally sourced dishes, it offers a one-of-a-kind dining experience not found anywhere else in Hawai‘i. The end result is a dynamic center that boasts flowing water features, lush landscaping and an iconic banyan tree that is more than a century old.
At International Market Place, we crafted a narrative that was inspired by the rich culture, history, and natural beauty of Waikiki, one that ultimately celebrates the people of Waikiki and welcomes visitors to feel at home.
